Most people learn:

Haram = forbidden.

And then they hear someone say “haram” about a crying child…
and everything collapses.

In Palestinian Arabic, “haram” reacts to situations.

It can mean:
– That’s religiously forbidden.
– That’s morally wrong.
– Poor thing.
– That’s really sad.

And apparently, in my case…

It can mean:
“This sunset is too beautiful for this world.”

Yes, I say “haram” when something is overwhelmingly beautiful.
I don’t know why. It just comes out.????

That’s the thing about Arabic.
Words stretch.
Tone decides meaning.
Context adjusts.

If you translate mechanically, you’ll miss the emotion.
And Arabic is emotional.

Next time you hear “haram,”
don’t translate it.
Feel it.
