T H O U G H T S

After the success of Cinderella (2015) and Beauty and the Beast (2017), I’m sure that Disney will make more live-action princess movies in the near future. I thought I would turn Odeya Rush into Jasmine for fun!

I ended up doing two movie posters for Jasmine - one showing just her face, and the other revealing her whole costume. I'm more drawn to costume design so I really wanted to design Jasmine's whole princess outfit. I only did the portrait face poster as well since I thought it looked better for the thumbnail!

The costume I chose to design is based on Jasmine's blue/teal cropped top and harem pants ensemble from the cartoon. I didn't want to stray too far away from the original cartoon design so I kept the light blue/teal colour constant and made sure to include beautiful draped pants, rather than a skirt or dress. Since Jasmine is the Sultan's daughter, I thought it only made sense that her outfit would be covered in fine jewels. In my version, Jasmine also wears a cape/jacket thing and a head covering - take these two things away and Jasmine has her iconic ensemble underneath.

I couldn't really find anyone that fits the bill for Jasmine, so I just chose Odeya Rush. She is a Middle Eastern actress and looks the right age for Jasmine. However, if this were to be made into a real live action film, I would prefer Disney to find a trained singer and someone new (similar to Auli'i Cravalho as Moana). I'm sure there is a young talented woman somewhere in the world who is trained in singing and musical theatre, can act and has a nice accent - we just don't know who she is yet! Anyway, for now, just imagine whoever you would like to be Jasmine in the costume!

I'm also thinking about doing another Jasmine video for her purple or red costume but with another actress. Let me know who you would cast as Jasmine!
