احتفالاً بشهر الأرض، نسلّط الضوء على أعمال مستكشف ناشيونال جيوغرافيك البروفيسور مازن قمصية، وهو مؤسس ومدير معهد فلسطين للتنوع الحيوي والاستدامة (PIBS) في جامعة بيت لحم في فلسطين حيث يركز المعهد على استدامة المجتمعات البشريّة والطبيعيّة. يحتفل المعهد بالذكرى السنوية العاشرة لتأسيسه وبثروة من الإنجازات خلال هذا الوقت القصير، بما في ذلك نشر أكثر من 130 مقالاً علمياً وإنشاء مجموعات نباتيّة وحيوانيّة تضم أكثر من عشرة آلاف عيّنة وأنشطة تعليميّة لا تعد ولا تحصى، تقرّب الشباب والكبار من الطبيعة. بالإضافة إلى النجاحات على مستوى السياسات بما في ذلك شبكة المناطق المحميّة الجديدة واستراتيجيّة وخطة عمل وطنية جديدة للتنوع البيولوجي. To celebrate Earth Month, we are highlighting the work of National Geographic Explorer, Professor Mazin Qumsiyeh. He is founder and director of the Palestine Institute for Biodiversity and Sustainability (PIBS) at Bethlehem University in occupied Palestine. PIBS focuses on the sustainability of human and natural communities - living in harmony with the land. PIBS is celebrating its 10 year anniversary and a wealth of achievements over this short time, including publishing more than 130 scientific articles, establishing plant and animal collections with more than ten thousand specimens, countless educational activities bringing young people and adults closer to nature, and successes at the policy level including a new protected areas network sand new national biodiversity strategy and action plan. 'Our Institute has become an oasis of peace and a magnet for people all over the world seeking to help people and nature.
